Dinner

The #socialmelb crew gets together for bimonthly dinners. So far we’ve consumed scrumptious meals at Gaylords, Red Spice Road, The Mess Hall, Little Creatures, Mezzo Bar + Grill, Wagamama, HONEY Bar, EARL Canteen and Bistro Flor.

For our April dinner we partner with Scarf Community for #foodforgood

For our ninth #socialmelb dinner, we’re teaming up with the Melbourne-based non-profit social entreprise Scarf Community.

Scarf borrows restaurants to provide relevant hands-on hospitality training and mentoring to marginalised youth who face barriers to obtaining fair access to training and employment.

The Autumn Scarf program will be held at Bistro Flor in North Carlton just a few minutes tram ride from the CBD. You can view a map here.

On Monday 4 April, we’ll be meeting from 6.30pm to enjoy a set menu.

For $35 pp you will get two courses with choice, as well as coffee and petits fours.

Wine and beer will be available for purchase on the night.

This is a great initiative and the venue is limited for up to 40 guests. If we have bookings of over 30, we’ll have the whole place reserved for the #socialmelb community.

To secure a ticket and to help with a great cause dubbed #foodforgood – please book here.

The next dinner will be held on February 2nd at EARL Canteen ~ January 2010

We’ve been incredibly lucky in finding ourselves an amazing feast for our New Year dinner.

Earl Canteen, with its solid reputation and raving reviews, will be hosting our start-of-2011 event.

On Wednesday 2nd February 2011, we’ll be meeting from 6pm at the Bourke Street locale to enjoy our usual captivating conversation, hearty social drinks as well as some world-renowned sandwiches!

That’s right – we’ll have six ‘nomalicious’ selections on offer during the evening including:

  • Otway pork belly, apple, cabbage and fennel coleslaw, wilted silverbeet, baguette
  • Confit duck, caramelised wild figs, walnuts, onion jam, radicchio, watercress, ciabatta
  • Lime and palm sugar poached Glenloth chicken, crunchy salad, coriander, chilli, nuoc nam, baguette
  • Roast field mushrooms, goats’ curd, pesto, chestnuts, rocket, ciabatta
  • Chunky ratatouille vegetables, local fiore di burrata, lots of herbs, baguette
  • Wagyu ‘salami’, parmesan, artichoke, sweet pickled chilli, rocket, focaccia

In addition duck fat potatoes will also be served.

For $28, you will enjoy the equivalent of one and half sandwiches per person PLUS a beverage of your choice*.

To top if off, Earl will be sponsoring a door prize of a voucher for 10 Earl sandwiches for one attendee!

But it’s not all roses, we’ll need at least 30 people for the dinner to go ahead, so please register early so I can confirm numbers 24 hours beforehand. On the same token, the venue caters to 60 so we will have limits on how many people can attend.

RSVP here: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1112506537/

* Earl will be offering beer, white and red wine as well as Campari/soda as the inclusive beverage.

Ratatatat! Announcing the long-awaited next #socialmelb dinner. ~ September 2010

After an amazing turnout (~150) for Mashable’s Social Media Day drinks, we’re convening again for some Spring salutations at HONEY BAR in South Melbourne.

Honey’s make-things-happen-man and late-night tweetaholic – Steve Vallas is pulling out all stops on the night. This includes a never been seen before 25% discount off all mains, pizzas and desserts on the night.

We’ll also have the pleasure of purchasing a custom-made cocktail, duly titled the ‘Social Media Expert’. Or if you prefer yours a little stronger: the ‘Social Media Douchebag’. Other drinks (house wine, house sparkling, basic spirits and Coronas) are also on special at $6.

Date: Wednesday 29th September
Time: From 6pm
Cost: Entirely up to you
Attire: Required

Steve loves seeing creative people in Honey’s space and it is exactly this kind of ethos that will make the night a complete hoot. To top things off – there’s unlimited high-speed WiFi available so we’ll be able to talk to each other through Twitter… for something different.

Please RSVP (below in the comment section or via Facebook) so we can get an idea of numbers. Friends and colleagues most welcome.

See you there!
